§Times Square ball: In the last week in December 2009, workers finished installing hundreds of new Waterford crystal panels into the 11,875 pound sphere, reading it for the 2009-2010 New Year’s Eve drop in Times Square. The 288 new panels are emblazoned with images of lapel ribbons in honor of the theme “Let there be courage.” The ball also features 1,440 panels with last year’s theme, “Let there be joy,” and “and 960 panels with the 2008 theme, “Let there be light.”
§ The always popular Messiah, composed by George Frideric Handel, was composed in London during the summer of 1741, and . . . AND . . . premiered in Dublin, Ireland, on April 13, 1742. It premiered as part of a series of charity concerts in Neal’s Music Hall on Fishamble Street. Fishamble Street, one of the oldest in Dublin, was named after the fish shambles or stalls that once lined it. ♪♫ Hallelujah, Halleluja ♫♪
